IGC 701: Rethinking Equitable and Inclusive PreK-12 Classrooms

Format: This course is a one-week summer intensive. An entire graduate class will be completed in one week, so please leave ample time to complete assignments each day. This is an online course and all coursework is completed asynchronously. There are no zoom sessions.
Course Description: Your Students, My Students, Our Students: Rethinking Equitable and Inclusive Classroom dives deep into what works and what needs to be improved in special education practices. Authors Lee Ann Jung, Nancy Frey, Douglas Fisher, and Julie Kroener explore five obstacles in special education and how all educators can help address these challenges and find solutions that benefit our students. During this course, you will be asked to reflect on the current practices at your school or district. At the conclusion of this course, you will have ideas on how to begin to implement systematic changes to create a school community that students deserve. This course is aligned to the Massachusetts State Frameworks.
Anticipated Textbook Fees: This course requires a textbook, which can be ordered here and typically costs $20. This fee is not included in the course price. Please purchase the textbook prior to the course start date.
